Today, when I click on the “create new trip” button at trips page https://www.inaturalist.org/tripsall it shows me is a whaleshark.
https://www.inaturalist.org/trips This usefull option is not really encouraged but you are rigth, it does not work. Do you use trips often for research or statiscis (occupancy model??)
I used it a couple of times and it was simple and pretty useful if you want to write a journal post about event, I didn’t touch statistis since I got my diploma, hard science is not for me, but trips can be used to see what wasn’t found (while it was being looked for) which is abcent from the rest of iNat.
I was wondering if it was used as it keeps the statiscial information (trefkans, occupancy model) https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/trips for research
( i tried to quote and as stated earilier, the other forums or more clear what they are going to do)
Given that there are trip reports dating back to at least 2014 (I checked the raw data they were created in 2014, they are not newly created historical records), it appears to have been around for some time.
I think it is just really unknown. I consider myself relatively up to speed on site functionality, and I had no idea this was there.
I think it was there from the start or around that (there was I think a journal post about them and a topic somewhere on the forum too), but then staff decided iNat don’t need trips, so there’s no button to open them, but they’re still available via link (and shown in journal feed alongside regular posts).
Made a github issue here: https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist/issues/3389
I see Loarie posted his trip and now they’re working!
