Uploading via different browsers and methods leads to different (sometimes unusable) image sizes

Platform: Website

Browser: Zen, Brave

URLs (aka web addresses) of any relevant observations or pages: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/339703378

Description of problem<!–(please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.)-→:

Depending on the browser and also on which page you upload the image to, the image uploaded will have a different size and sometimes be too small to be useable. On all browsers, I’ve uploaded images in the past that were full size, and the reduced image size doesn’t seem to be related to WiFi problems.
I do not know whether this is a bug in MacOS, in the browsers, or in iNat.

Step 1: Uploaded observations to Zen Browser by dragging and dropping into iNat Upload page → a lot of the images were uploaded in very poor quality (360 × 540 pixels)

Step 2: Uploaded the same photo into Zen Browser by dragging and dropping into Observation page of an already existing observation → image was uploaded in medium quality (724 × 1068 pixels)

Step 3: Repeated step two, but in Brave → images again 724 × 1068 pixels

Step 4: Repeated step two, but in Safari → image is uploaded in original size (4707 × 7060 pixels)

Additionally, in the first instance, no meta data was uploaded and the file name isn’t that of the original image.
In the second and third instance, meta data was uploaded, but the file name was changed.
In the last instance, both meta data and file name were correctly transferred

this sounds like something related to the interaction between the Photos app on your Mac and your browser. starting from the second half of this post and also in the linked thread in that post, there’s some discussion that is probably relevant to what you are seeing: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/a-different-heic-question/33028/16
