A small country that punches way above it’s weight. And now not just in sports!
And a shining role model for how to CNC.
Frustrating thing is if we could ever figure out how to get site uptake in Quebec, our 2nd largest province where site use remains low, Canada would be closer to 150 records per 100,000 population, Not NZ level, but a more clear 2nd place.
I took way too long to make a CSV file to prove this using R. You are correct that Québec sees the least per capita engagement on iNat, although it has slightly more observations with photos and RG observations per 1000 km^2 than Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I asked Microsoft Copilot for the population of individuals over 13 years old as well as the land area of each region, so the numbers might be off.
I think the language barrier between English and French is the main reason Québec’s interest in iNaturalist is much lower than other provinces’. I would gladly help bridge the gap by becoming an iNaturalist ambassador, if only the time and effort I were to invest was financially compensated.
Also, keep your eyes peeled for a third referendum next year if the PQ wins the provincial elections, which seems likely based on polls. Québec may no longer be a Canadian province soon.
Some are missing?
There are more which should appear on that list
you’re replying to a >4-year-old post, i think. if you’re saying that there are more countries with 100,000 observations now, that’s certainly true.
