Ah, i wanted to check on the iphone app, but i only use the app for uploading with wifi so it is nearly always the website. I included a links so i thought it only could be the website. I can use the Dutch names when i want to submit observations on the website.
Strange, i just checked my iphone6 with iNat app2.7.18 build523 which should not be that old and there the names are shown in DUTCH, i thought they did not 14 hours ago.
You need to be more precise for anyone to try and help here. Where do you not see a Dutch name, or the mobile app, on the website app, on which screen etc ?
14hours ago i thought the name was in english but now 14hours later it is in Dutch on my iphone which has a Dutch language. The iphone Inat app is also in Dutch but i changed my website in English to understand the forum much more, the Forum.inaturalist.org is hard to understand if you do not have an english app or website version.
I saw both English and Dutch names and was surprised to see a Dutch name present on the Taxon page…(and now also Dutch in the iphone app)
Just to clarify, this capitalization scheme doesn’t affect the mobile apps, just the website.
I just want to make sure that you spot checked some of these names and that they are correct and that the scientific names match taxa in our database. Obviously there might be a few wrong ones, but those should be exceptions.
Also, just a note that when we ingest common names, they are only added if a) the scientific name in
your list has a match in our taxonomy and b) there is not already a common name in that language for that taxon in our database.
I went through the list quite a bit and I haven’t seen a songlr mistake. Obviously there will be some, but that’s why I hope that in the future we will be able to edit the names ourselves regardless of who added them.
