Why is the Observation Taxon Animalia on this one?

I don’t understand how Animalia ended up as the Observation Taxon here…

This looks like it belongs in the bug report forum – the about page shows that it should indeed be recognized as Lepidoptera. The date is also listed as unspecified, despite the presence of a date and time.

Ok, I moved it to bug reports. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something obvious.

The date thing is sort of my fault, but I guess maybe a separate bug? I’m not sure. When I saw that the Observation Taxon wasn’t what I expected, I tried to “refresh” the observation by checking and unchecking something in the DQA section. The thing I happened to check was date not accurate, and when I voted down on that, the Date Specified also changed to no. When I removed my date not accurate vote, the Date Specified remained at no.

No, bugs are Hemiptera. This is Lepidoptera…

:)

hey folks - this is due to the date observed being in the future which made the Obs invalid and thus the Community Taxon not getting updated. We just deployed a fix to prevent future dates from happening. And I manually removed the date on this one

Is there any reason the community taxon and observation taxon shouldn’t be updated when new IDs are added, regardless of whether the date is missing or inaccurate? At the very least there should be 24 hours leeway on this to allow for timezone issues and AM PM problems. Here’s an example: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/27325293

Another example from the same user: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/27325295
His initial ID was Insects, and then when the observation ID didn’t update after his new ID he tried deleting the Insects ID to fix it.
