Wiki Links not Working, even after curator involvement

Description of problem:

There is a large number of taxa that have lost their wiki link, and they do not reattach after curator involvement. I have dealt with at least 7-8 flags in the past 48 hours that involve this issue.

Looking at the backup from last week, here’s what I see for Bradypus variegatus:

So you’re saying that today that summary was gone before you went in today to fix it? And the Wikipedia title field was blank until you added Brown-throated_sloth?

You can add Plains Forktail to the list:

I’ve flagged it, but I thought that since there was a Bug Report thread open, I’d make a note of it here as well.

Thanks, here’s a screenshot of what it looks like now:

If anyone finds any more, please don’t flag or fix them, can you please just share them here? Then we can take a look before anything’s done to it, which may help with any investigation. Thanks!

Yep, that’s what it should look like, and I’ll add any that I find to the list here until y’all tell me to stop.

This one has already been tampered with, but seems to be the same:

Just found another one!

sigh Make that two:

Hat trick, anybody?

https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/71034-Tenodera-sinensis

I think it’s all or most, at least at the species level. I’m seeing articles for higher ranks, eg https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/125830-Theclinae#articles-tab and https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/1-Animalia#articles-tab although @GothHobbit did post Pentatomidae as an example.

I found another Family level:

https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/47929-Calopterygidae

I was backtracking from American Rubyspot, and everything is missing up to Superfamily level.

I’ve got some other species level ones to report, too:

https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/113503-Sympetrum-danae
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/337499-Sympetrum-meridionale
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/118948-Sympetrum-pedemontanum
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/113525-Sympetrum-sanguineum
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/113526-Sympetrum-semicinctum
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/85408-Erythemis-collocata
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/61495-Erythemis-simplicicollis

I’ve already checked them for Wiki articles and whether the higher-level taxon pages are affected.

Before I realized this was a widespread issue, someone flagged Green Heron. I tried fixing it, and it appears to be showing now, but it didn’t initially.

You can also add Gunnison Sage-Grouse to the list:

Got another set:

https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/367704-Psittaculidae
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/200965-Strigopidae

The main taxon page for Parrots is okay, and so is New World and African Parrots.

That would have been me. Sorry; I had no intention of expanding our “random stuff breaking around the house” curse to the database.

Adding to the list:

https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/84521-Nigma-walckenaeri
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/633860-Hierodula-transcaucasica
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/53905-Mantis-religiosa
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/523483-Locustini
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/35844-Lacerta*
*note: I’m not sure if there’s a Wiki page for the subfamily Lacertinae. The family page for Wall Lizards is okay, and doesn’t appear to have a seperate link for a subfamily page, so I’m reporting it at Genus, which does have a page that isn’t being picked up.

Thanks all! I don’t think we need any more examples, this should be enough to go on.

What did you do here? Did you just enter the Green_heron text into the field and save the change? You didn’t hit “Refresh” on the Wikipedia summary, correct? Just trying to see if I can replicate it.

I refreshed it, and it didn’t seem to work. Then I entered Green_heron, and it apparently worked with 20 hours of that happening.

We have isolated this issue – it’s related to how we connect to and cache results from the Wikipedia API and not any sort of problem on a per taxon level. We’re working on a fix that, once applied, should repair these as a group (though TBD how long that might take to populate).
