Wrong ranking for "Most observed species" including genus and species in projects

Inaturalist online platform.Chrome

I’ve noticed some issues while checking stats at my personal project for my lepidoptera observations.

Let’s take a look in the project:

https://mexico.inaturalist.org/projects/jorge_natura-lepidoptera ,
the record for most observed species claims:

However if I manually look at the project the Hemiceras genus

https://mexico.inaturalist.org/observations?project_id=jorge_natura-lepidoptera&taxon_id=328097&verifiable=any

It is now clear that I have 7 observations identified as Hemiceras genus only, plus the ones that have achieved species rank.

So it seems wrong that the stats claims “Hermeuptychia genus” is the most observed one with just 6 observations.

I understand that it would be wrong if it counted all observations from hemiceras genus ( the 13 in total, 7 that only achieved genus + 6 that got to species) but it should be able to claim those 7 “just genus” as a whole in the ranking.

In addition, I recall Acrolophus genus used to be on the top list (It has 7 “just genus” observations), at some point I decided to add species for just 1 of the observations, this caused the genus to be taken away from the top list.

https://mexico.inaturalist.org/observations?project_id=jorge_natura-lepidoptera&taxon_id=118929&verifiable=any

Furthermore, neither Hemiceras nor Acrolophus are shown in the top count for the project, despite the fact that those genus I have already spoken does have more observations that the top1 claimed by the stats:

https://mexico.inaturalist.org/observations?project_id=220157&ttl=900&place_id=any&verifiable=any&view=species

So I believe there is something weird going on. But I can’t tell.

If you need more details please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

There is no bug; the system is functioning as intended. The species tab (and the “Most Observed Species” for projects) only tallies the terminal taxa (aka “leaves”). So as soon as you add a more refined ID to one of the observations, any observations from a higher taxon on that same branch is then not counted in the tally.
