This photo reminds me of these robins I took a photo of! A very dramatic moment as well.

Here are some more.
I posted this on the worst photos thread… I think it qualifies for the best photo too.

As far as best photos in which the subject is actually identifiable, that’s difficult. I enjoy photographing birds, so most of my favorites are bird photos. I’m not going to try to pick a “top few” though.

I’m not a photographer, but I borrowed a camera from a photography club earlier this year and got to take some photos. This photo was of a resident chipping sparrow and brings me immense joy. He was so photogenic.
On March 25th this year I believe I got me best shot ever with this Spruce Grouse below. Anchorage, Alaska still had oodles amount of snow and this guy was brave. Pretty sure he had a nest
near by.
I’m actually pretty happy with how this New England Aster turned out. It was really just a quick shot.
This was like the second time I went out to photograph wildlife. (Also the second time using my new camera.) And I miraculously took this shot… Sure I have better pictures, but this one, I’ll always remember.
I really enjoy bringing them inside and doing detailed focus stacks in a controlled environment. This is one that comes to mind as one of my favorites:
I’d say this one. I love how the colours of the pasha butterfly, the lichens and the rock match.

Captured with my iPhone on the island of Vis,Croatia.
The one I still like the most is my Green Toad from 2007, taken with a Konica Minolta Z3. The toad greeted me every evening at the glass door of our previous office (light was always on inside, insects were attracted, fell down the glass and made the toad happy).
I uploaded it only recently after learning in the forum that old obs are useful here. I haven’t seen toads nearby in recent years, probably they were all run over on the road between the pond and the office.

Hard to narrow down for me. I went through and pulled up the tabs of my favorites, and then went through and snipped that list further. Ended up with these:
Wood Stork
Water Pennyworts
Boat-tailed Grackle (Buddy)
Red-shouldered Hawk
Eastern Cottontail
Peter’s Rock Agama (Someone thought this photo was good enough for Wikipedia??)
Northern Mockingbird (Hank)
Like a lot of other posters, I don’t have a single best shot. I’ve picked out a few that I really like, but this could change depending on what mood I’m in. The one’s I’ve chosen here are mainly because they have a tale to tell.
1. Lobed Argiope: This is this observation that made me discover iNat. I saw this spider on holiday and didn’t have a clue what it was. If you look at my profile picture, you can see the joy on my face at finding it. I made my first post here to find out what it was and it turned out to be life changing. Before that I was a keen photographer who liked animals and sometimes took wildlife shots. After that I soon became obsessed with nature and took photos almost exclusively of wildlife.
2. Nomad Bee: I saw this in my local wildlife park. I’d never seen anything quite like it before. When I read that these bees go to sleep hanging off of leaves like this it amazed me.
3. Sabre Wasp: I was quickly visiting a reservoir whilst passing though a remote part of Wales. I took my birding lens down to the water, saw next to nothing and started walking back to the car disappointed. On my way back, I saw the wasp. I quickly took some snaps with my pocket compact and resumed my walk back to the car kicking myself for not bringing my macro lens. At the car, I thought ‘why not?’ and headed back to the same spot, this time with the right equipment. Amazingly, the wasp was still there and she sat up beautifully.
4. Great Cormorant: This one was only last week. I was at the end of Southend Pier, which is an amazing structure in my home town. The Cormorant sat for ages with its wings outstretched. I was mesmerised by its beautiful green eye.
Awesome shots!
Thank you very much.
Actually this could probably be over at the other thread…
By no means the best, but this came to mind. I remember that this looked really good on the phone and without my glasses.
Fun thread and some really interesting and inspiring examples shared by the community so far!

This could be my best photo so far! It was just two meters from me.
