Community identification doesn't update

Please fill out the following sections to the best of your ability, it will help us investigate bugs if we have this information at the outset. Screenshots are especially helpful, so please provide those if you can.

Platform (Android, iOS, Website): Android

App version number, if a mobile app issue (shown under Settings or About): 1.30.15

Browser, if a website issue (Firefox, Chrome, etc) : n/a

URLs (aka web addresses) of any relevant observations or pages: n/a

Screenshots of what you are seeing (instructions for taking a screenshot on computers and mobile devices: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/):

Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):

Step 1: I upload an observation without a species level identification.

Step 2: Other users add species level identifications.

Step 3: The community taxon doesn’t change and stays at my initial identification.

This has happened with my app for a very long time and since it’s not a huge problem I just never got around to posting about it. I can force a community taxon update by withdrawing my id and then reinstating it. I spend a lot of time doing this for every observation on my app though…

It would be helpful to have a link to a specific observation that is doing this for you. This would help isolate whether it is an indexing issue (affects all apps/websites) or just an issue with the app not updating properly.

it’s something in the app, but it’s unclear (to me) whether it’s a bug exactly. (fundamentally, without doing any of my own testing, it looks like djscho’s view of the observation shows the observation taxon reflecting their identification rather than the community ID. it’s possible djscho just needs to – and is expected to but did not? – update their observations in the my observations page to update the community ID in his view.)

in my mind, probably the most useful thing is to know how djscho opened up the observation – from my observations or from explore or from activity feed – and how the observation appears in screens like my observations and explore.

there’s nothing wrong with the observation in the system: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/237420429.

Probably the same issue as this
