Display the species I have observed by date of first observation

Hello everyone!

Is it possible to display the species I have observed sorted by date of first observation? I tried finding a way to do it on my life list but was unable to…

If this feature doesn’t exist, perhaps this post can become a feature request.

Thanks a lot in advance!

If you go to your observations tab and set the filters to sort by date observed and ascending, then you can see your observations in the order you observed them, but I can’t think of a way to do that for the species you observed.

Only way I know to do it is export your observations, sort ascending in Excel by date and then remove duplicates by species.

Yes, that was one of the ideas I had, but wanted to confirm if there was a way to do it on the website!

You can do it in “Identify”. Sort by Date observed

I don’t know of a way to see a list of species in this order except by using offline tools as @chipperatl mentioned, but you can see something similar on your “Year in Review” page under “Newly Added Species” (https://www.inaturalist.org/stats/2023/joaolemoslima#new-species). To see the whole time-line, go to the lower graph and drag the grey box to include the whole graph. Then go to the upper graph and click on the bar for any month to see the observations for new species added that month. If you want to see it up to the current date, edit the year in the URL to the current year (2024), then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Regenerate Stats” (or “Generate Your Stats”) button. (Don’t do this too often because it takes a lot of server time to generate the page.)
