So i’ve been sporadically using iNat next (only when i have cell service because it doesn’t work well without it) and i’ve found it has become slower over time. It’s not a caching issue as the memory amount it is taking is much less than the other app (which is a great improvement!) but something else seems to be slowing it down. I was also having some upload errors. Maybe the iNat server is just slow today but it seemed odd.
Do you mind if I split this into its own topic in iNaturalist Next Discussion? Seems like an issue worth its own topic.
What specifically is slower?
I found that the algorithm was slower to load (i had cell service but it wasn’t great), skipping the frog screen that asks me to let the app access the photo album took a longer time than usual, and at one point it crashed and sent me an error. (sorry i didn’t get a photo but i was in the field with a landowner and couldn’t do that)
(moved it to its own topic)
We’re investigating ways to make it load faster, although haven’t added any fixes yet. I haven’t checked in detail but it seems to load about the same for me every time.
We plan to remove that after you’ve declined it once, so you won’t have to keep encountering it.
Awesome! though i realize off topic. I will continue testing it in different settings to try to see if I underestimated the impact of the slow cell service or if the app itself continues to get slower.
