How to add another user's observation to my project?

I created a project using the original project creation method. The purpose of the project is to simply collect a series of observations I want to revisit for identification purposes. The project was created, but now when I try to add an observation, I get this error message:

I am a member, I’m pretty sure. I am able to add one of my own observations to the project, just not anyone elses. How to fix?

you’ve set one of the requirements to be invited members only:

this is unnecessary since you also set it such that only project curators (currently, you) can add records to the project. If you edit your project settings and change this to open:

it will work
