iNat android app crashes for any use involving photos

Platform: Android 15

App version number, if a mobile app issue: 1.36.8

Description of problem:

Step 1: App behavior is the same for both opening gallery and selecting photo(s) and sending to iNat, or for opening iNat and trying to create a record and selecting photo(s).

Step 2: In both cases the app crashes immediately. If it is sending photos to iNat from the gallery, you never get a screen to add a species identification or change any other settings.

Step 3: When the app is re-opened is seen syncing a record with sometimes with the first photo for an Unknown species, and sometimes with no photo at all.

Step 4: After syncing if you go to that record and try to add a photo it crashes immediately.

Which device are you using? We track crashes by device model.

Samsung S24. Was working fine a few days ago. I see a software update for gallery in that time frame since my last submission, but have tried submitting selecting through files and have the same issue.

Are you using any sort of cloud backup service for your photos? That’s often been an issue when it comes to getting photos to iNat. And what sort of photo permission are you allowing for iNat?

No cloud backups. The app has full permissions to photos and location.

Tried clearing the cache, and when that didn’t work uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Neither had any success and any use of photos crashes the program.
