I’m not sure if this is an issue with iNat, Discourse, or something else, so posting in Forum Feedback. I noticed that when adding a link to an iNat observation in a forum post, it returns a 403 and no preview, example:
It might be nice if iNat observations returned previews on the forum (or maybe not and this is intended?)
without looking too deeply at this, i would assume that this is related to the bot checks that broke a lot of the previews on other social media stuff. here’s an example: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/social-media-previews-no-longer-work/77159. with the bot checks in place, it seems like iNat has to specifically allow each platform that is known to legitimately generate previews. so i guess the forum may need to be added to that list.
I was wondering this, but don’t know enough to check/determine if it’s the case. If so, whitelisting forum.inaturalist.org/ or something like that would be good (assuming it’s possible). Or maybe Discourse need to change the way it processes preview requests more generally (which seemed to be what staff said about some other platforms).
