Suffering is a quality-of-life feature implemented to improve the user experience! :slightly_smiling_face:

Somebody with far more expertise will no doubt come along shortly (and probably explain why my idea is silly), but I suggest deleting the cache for the app and seeing if that impacts anything. (Under phone settings, then apps, iNaturalist, storage & cache, clear cache).

Hopefully things get working for you soon!

Tysm for the quick reply…
At first the problem persisted for the first few minutes.

But after awhile it went away… Thanks!

This issue occurred recently when I was overseas and utilizing my esim to upload on inat. It kept getting stuck on syncing etc. Which eventually led to a total breakdown of the app for me (now resolved).

I am also having generalised issues with the Android app so I thought to add to this thread with more detail:

-Force-stopping the app didn’t work
-Clearing cache didn’t work
-The issues started about 2 days ago at least

Issues I’m finding:
-Newly added observations get stuck uploading for several minutes. Sometimes pausing and resuming works, sometimes it doesn’t. (This happens at all stages of the upload including preparing, syncing, etc)
-I used to be able to create observations while another one was uploading. If I try to do that now, the computer vision suggestions will not load for the obs. being created.
-After force-stopping the app and opening it again, my species and IDs count shows as 0
-The “Activity” feed doesn’t load for “My content” and half-loads for “Following”
-The “Missions” section gives a notice that nothing can be found

Sections that seem to work:
-Explore, guides, projects, messages, profile and settings load properly, though I didn’t try to fiddle with them.
-No issues found in the browser version and once the apps obs. upload, they have no issues either.

This was exactly my problem too.
I think after I marked as resolved… The issue intermittently resurfaces… E. G. Going to acitivities/following/projects just keeps loading (the circle keeps spinning indefinitely)

Well… this is a new one.

Yep, I am having the same issues for the last couple of hours.

Can you please send us log files from the app after you encounter the issue? To send log files, go to the About tab in the iNaturalist app and tap three times on the version number. You will then have the option to email the log files to us.

When America is back at work in the morning and Europe come back from field work, in the evening hours (european time), iNat is nearly unuseable slow. :(

Every action takes a minute or more. And I’m looking at turning green circles…

Next morning, everthing is fine again.

Would be glad, if iNat can spend a lot more server speed in high load hours. O:)

I have come to just upload stuff from my computer in a batch. The app is borderline unusable even in the optimum connection in the field. Even on 4+ bar 5G I keep getting the “close the app” or “wait” prompt from my android device when uploading even one observation, and the upload is far too slow to do multiple concurrently and overwhelms the app. I have no idea why the phone app struggles so much but the laptop handles 100 observations in the same amount of wait time. I’d expect by now you could upload a single obs with one photo in literal seconds.

Perhaps than mine is another problem than yours. I never had to close the app because of a “close the app” window. I only close it than, because I don’t want to waste my time with waiting.

unable to show the logs as the issue magically resolved itself the next day  no more intermittent lagging…

There was definitely a lot of traffic on Monday (US time). I do think Mondays are among iNat’s busiest days.
