About 3 days ago I encountered a problem uploading pictures to my iNaturalist app. I would select photos from my gallery and choose ‘send to inaturalist app’ like usual, but was met with a ‘Photo format not supported’ message each time I tried. This error occurred with all photos, even ones I had previously uploaded using the same method.
I searched the forums and found this post: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/photo-format-not-supported/57501. Many users seemed to be having the same issue. After downloading the ‘alpha version’ of the app that @Tiwane linked in the thread, I was once again able to import photos to the app through my gallery, but the photo orientation was off with each import. Some photos would be rotated 90 degrees, others 180 degrees, but never the true orientation.
I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and the photo orientation is still not working correctly.
I am e-mailing log files now in case they are able to provide assistance.
The latest public version of the app for Android is 1.35.5 (619), so it appears that you’re not using the latest version. Can you please update and see if the rotation issue is still happening?
I have updated the app, now using 1.35.5 (619) and I am still encountering the same issues. I imported 10 photos over several observations just now and 2 of them kept their orientation, the others rotated 90 or 180 degrees. One of the images even mirrored!
I was & am using Android 1.35.5 (619) and I can reproduce it in this version also with an Android 10 device.
I expect landscape photo’s are not rotated and show up correct in iNat.
Portrait photos are rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise and are rotated in iNat.
