Have you ever been irked by the available choices in emojis?
Here is an entertaining article from The Washington Post about which taxa are, and are not, represented by emojis.
The authors aptly coin the phrase “invertebrate injustice.”
No tarantulas, no wasps, no dragonflies, no weevils, no cicadas, no slugs, no moths, no isopods, only 1 type of bee, only 2 beetles (some kind of scarab and a lady beetle) and this is just broad categories off the top of my head. Boooo give us more arthropods!! Ohh and sea urchins, I love sea urchins.
Not exactly emojis since they’re black and white, but the Egyptian Hieroglyphs has lots of animals. You get not 𓅬, not 𓅺, but 𓅸 birds and other animals too.
