Multiple projects + Umbrella vs Single project for event series

As part of the Ambassador program I plan on doing semi-regular introduction events to iNat with subsequent mini-Bioblitz of a few hours.

Since I do not expect thousands of observations in a few hours, should I do a single project for all events (you can still distinguish to which event an observation belongs by observation date) or should I do a separate project for each event and bundle them in an umbrella project?

A few clarifying questions:

  • Will the BioBlitzes be in the same location or different locations?
  • What is the purpose of the project? Will you use it as a review and reflection during the event or for a record of activity?

I think if you want to limit the bioblitz time-frame for the projects and keep a record, you would have to create multiple projects, each with its own time limit, and collate them into an umbrella project. Another option may be to reuse just one project and edit the times for another bioblitz. But that way previously recorded observations won’t show up in it any more.

Alternatively, you could limit by location and/or participant user names without a time-frame so everything goes into one project. However, that would then also include observations made outside the bioblitz times as long as they meet the other project criteria.

The first couple times at the same location but possibly sometimes in a different location.

It will be used for a subsequent discussion about the most interesting finds and for the participants and others to see how diverse nature even in this urban area is.

I think separate projects would be best but I was asking more about the overhead it will cause for iNat. Or is this only important to consider for classical projects?

I think separate collection projects with umbrella is likely best. Collection projects have little overhead as they are essentially saved searches.

Bonus point: This could help teach new users in the bioblitz about how collection projects work (which is the type most users will encounter most frequently).
