Hi all,
I’d like to request Place‑creation privileges so I can set up accurate boundaries for several conservation sites I help manage.
I’ve worked for Lancashire Wildlife Trust for 15 years and currently run volunteer groups at:
Preston Junction Local Nature Reserve
Booths Plantation
Howick Hall Wood
I’m trying to create Collection Projects for these sites so volunteers can track species records and changes over time. Some of the existing Places have no boundaries, and others don’t exist yet, so having the ability to create or edit Places directly would make this much easier and avoid repeated curator requests.
It would be really valuable if I could record sepeices on site with our teams of volunteers, both for the records themsleves but alos as an enegagement exercise.
I’m happy to follow all guidelines for Place creation and avoid duplicates or unnecessary small polygons.
You should be able to create places once you have added 50 verifiable observations. Only curators and staff can edit existing places, but you can flag those and we can take a look.
I’m curious to follow how this works; I’ve created numerous places over the years and I don’t have any sort of special privileges or curator status. I always assumed this was a universal thing that anyone could do. Is the ability locked for new users?
Thanks. I suppose thats an option, ill start recording with the group and when I have records create the places then. Its a shame though, Iwould have loved to intorduce this to the group straight away and ge tthem more involved.
It shouldn’t take more than a few hours to make 50 verifiable observations in most cases, barring severe weather. Photographing dead weeds or some lichen and moss would work.
Thanks for that…..maybe ill do that with the group over a couple of weeks, 25 records tomorrowm same next week….yeah I thhink thats a plan. Thanks again
