Until now, every time one loaded the Identify page there were certain settings in the Identify page modal (aka pop-up) that had a default value. Some of these were:
The “Lock zoom level” box being unchecked:
And in the Suggestions tab, the “Sort by” and “Source” options:
This meant that for any who preferring using different defaults, such as a more zoomed-in map view, or “Visually Simliar” for their Suggestions source, they would need to change these settings every time they loaded the Identify page.
We’ve now made these three settings “sticky”, meaning that whenever you load or reload the Identify page in your browser, those three settings will default to the same value you chose the last time you used the Identity page, and will be retained even if you log out of your browser and log back in.
For example, I tend to like my map level zoomed in, and I use “Visually similar” for my Source on the Suggestions tab in almost all cases, as often I use the Identify page to refine coarse identifications. So, once I choose my values for these settings, the Identify page will always load with those values chosen, unless I change them in the future.
We think this will save identifiers some time, especially if they have multiple bookmarked Identify page filters. See original feature request discussion here.
Some caveats:
-
this ony affects the Identify page, not the Compare modal on individual observation pages.
-
observation-dependent Settings, like the taxon and place values for the Suggestions tab, are not affected by this change - they will still be based the observation’s ID and location.
-
if you had any open Identify tabs before this was released (about 20 minutes ago), you’ll need to refresh them in order for this to take effect.
