User list for announcing CNC Bioblitz

My biggest challange in organizing the CNC Bioblitz has for 4 years now been making/getting a user list easily. This was previously discussed in https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/is-there-an-easy-way-to-get-a-list-of-usernames-by-county-counties/60508 previously, but there was not an actual bullet-listed procedure for how to do it… Does anyone have such a thing written in lay terms? I.e., first do this, then this, then this… There simply has to be something!

Thanks, in advance!

  1. Go to iNaturalist Explore.
  2. Type in the place name in search in the upper left.
  3. Then click on Observers in the dark gray header to see list of observers.

Here are the observers of Leon County

Do you want to download a list of users?

it all depends on how you want to define the folks you want to include in your user list. if you want to see the top observers for your project from last year, you can simply go to: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/2025-florida-georgia-inaturalist-city-nature-challenge?tab=observers. or this will give you the same thing but in a slightly more tabular format: https://jumear.github.io/stirfry/iNatAPIv1_observations_observers?project_id=2025-florida-georgia-inaturalist-city-nature-challenge

if you want to combine several years’ projects together, you can use either of the options below (but note that to get more than 500 users, you’d have either get the lists for the 3 projects individually and combine them yourself or use some other method):

if you want to use some other criteria to define your user list, that could also change the approach. for example, if you want to start with members of past projects, that’s a different sort of exercise altogether.

so i guess the first thing to decide is where you want to get your users for your list.

If going this route it may make sense to set a time filter on the explore page to some recentish timeframe, no sense in messaging every prolific observer who visited your city 10 years ago, especially if its in the stead of a current local user.

it looks like you’ve asked a related question before: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/messaging-users-in-bulk/43580. there, you seemed to be more concerned about the mechanics of sending out a message to tons of users, whereas in this thread, you seem to be asking about how to get a user list in the first place.
