Cardinal flower is something the hummingbirds love! My neighbor plants it and the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds quite like it. It is definitely a very cool/beautiful flower!

Many cacti have very stunning flowers. :D
I was lucky enough to get 2 Tephrocacti geometici this year, but sadly their bloom has fallen exactly into the one week I wasn’t home… Haha

I grow some hybrid Tolumnias which I never post as observations. Colourful, affordable price but a chore. Requires daily watering in the morning and not at night, otherwise it melts down. I’ve spent some time in the past looking for varieties in nurseries. It is often seed-grown in Thailand and have some variations in flower form. The local nurseries import from Thailand. Main disadvantage is it is prone to soft rot. I grow lavenders and a few common roses too in the past. Lavenders are not native to the tropical island I’m at. Prone to mildew or fungus when rain gets on the leaves. It requires 14 hours of daylight for blooming. I’ve 10-12 hrs of daylight. My cousin brought back two x intermedia ‘Grosso’ from France and I grew it for her. This variety bloom for me every year once in March or April. Nice scent. It is a chore in the Monsoon season of december when I had to wake up in the middle of the night to take the pots in. It is very particular with its soil. French lavenders are kind of prettier. One local nursery stocks some from Japan. but I got tired. This variety won’t flower in my climate. Nicer varieties are coming out, but I’m not touching those. Some roses are common. I think I’m growing knockout rose, but it has no label at the nursery. I don’t know its name. The same nursery that stocks the lavenders, there was once I saw a single petal red rose, with an exquisite scent. It also has really sharp thorns. I always looks at its thorns before I get any rose. Most roses have thorns.

Common milkweed, Asclepias syriaca, because the flowers are very cool up close, and they attract many pollinators. Here are just a few:

Standing in a milkweed patch is one of may favorite things to do!

So intriguing!

When it comes to what flowers would I put in a flower bed, I am partial to yellow and orange Asteraceae. Tagetes marigolds, Cape marigolds, Mexican sunflowers, zinnias of those colors, leopard’s bane. When I am in the Dominican Republic, I have to admit that I love the meadows covered with creeping oxeye, even though it is considered weedy.

Oh yes, I see the hummingbirds quite often at cardinal flower. That is the reason I planted it in my yard!

Perhaps, but I’ve seen a lot of hummers in the Indian Pink!

Yes yes…the scent is not citrusy, a clear scent which drifts in the nursery garden. It is hard to describe the scent of most roses and I’ve not seen the best of rose varieties. It is clear and sweet, not damask, tea nor citrusy, although I cannot rule out a small percentage of those components. An east asian flavour from its name.

I’m only planting native right now so it’s not anything I would buy, but I seem to have a limitless capability to be intrigued by plants! LOL!

Oh this is a hard question but if I have to say something then it would to all because there are way to many cool flowers to choose from

Hmm…a tough question. One of my favourite flowers is indian blanket, simply because of the vibrant colours and contrast between the red and yellow. I also love morning glories as well.
