Description of need:
On the inat user home page include a navigation tab that takes you to where you can see comments made by you and/or made on your observations. This is already possible through the two url’s linked above, but there isn’t a smooth way to access them currently.
Accessibility/useability? Finding comments you have made is useful and that currently exist, but it is currently only accessible through a url and is not linked anywhere obvious, thus most users don’t know about it and don’t make use of it.
I thought that it fits with the theme of the other tabs on the navigation bar and could be a place to put a clickable thing(idk the web design term).
I think that if finding comments became easier, more people would realize that seeing their own comments was actually something they didn’t know they were missing.
I take your point, although I feel this is a bigger issue regarding identifications. That is, I can get to the page of my identifications, but they show in descending chronological order with no way to filter them. Recently, there was one that I had wanted to change because I had learned more, but I had no way to find it in my >2,000 pages of IDs. Fortuitously, someone else interacted with it and I got the notification.
This is already the case with identifications, but unless there was a way to filter or search within the proposed tab, it wouldn’t be much easier than it is now.
currently searching your id’s is possible through the url parameter ident_user_id=
by using that and a variety of other filters it is possible to find any observation you have made an id on.
I am not saying this is easy or ideal, but the same is not possible with comments.
I don’t know about you, but I have much less comments (maybe a few thousand maximum) than I do identifications (38k), and much more time between comments, especially if comments on the same observation are grouped together liked they currently are on the /comments page.
What I am trying to say is that scrolling through or doing a CTRL+F search would be much easier than doing on a page of my id’s.
the /comments page currently filters observations by you and those that mention you, and has a search bar that finds certain words, I don’t see why this would change once it is linked on the dashboard. It is an adequate starting point for filters. I don’t think your grievances about the id’s page belong on this thread, I don’t disagree but maybe you should start your own for those complaints.
I think I’d be OK with this being in the user menu (the one that appears when you click on your profile pic) but not as a big public button displayed everywhere.
I think this is a good option. I definitely work with my own comments much less than other aspects of the platform, so I don’t think prominent screen space on the front page is needed for this. But having a relatively easy to access link somewhere would be good.
