Suscribed taxa not appearing at my All Updated

Platform: website

Description of problem:

Step 1: I am subscribed to several taxa, such as Sharks and Rays (Subclass Neoselachii), which is now inactive, and after a few days I noticed that they are not showing up in my All Updated, then I realized that it was deactivated after a new taxonomic approach, changing to Sharks and Rays (Class Elasmobranchii), should not be this automatically change in this subscription option? I’m not sure if this is automatic, anyway, I suscribed to Elasmobranchii.

Same thing happened to me (Julidini - deactivated - subscribed to Julidinae)

Although personally I don’t think this necessarily a bug. When a taxon is deactivated, I believe it still retains its taxon url (I even have the one for Neoselachii, here, which means that it technically is still considered its own taxon (though in active).

Since (I believe) subscriptions to taxa are… well… to taxa, which do not get ‘moved’ (rather, replaced) by other taxa, the site just sees it as you being subscribed to the inactive taxon as it technically is still considered its own taxon.

I hope this finds you well.

I’m not sure if this is a bug, since it seems like it might be intended behavior. Theoretically, taxon subscriptions could follow the same logic as whatever changes are to taxonomy (ie, whatever an ID for a given taxon gets automatically changed to, a subscription could be changed to as well). But that ID changing process isn’t always intuitive, and this could lead to some weird consequences for subscriptions (eg, a species gets subsumed to genus level, so then people would be subscribed to a whole genus instead of the species, etc.). There also aren’t really notifications associated with subscriptions themselves currently, so the changes would be behind the scenes and likely to cause confusion. Barring a large feature update (which might be unlikely for subscriptions which aren’t a major development focus), the current approach might be best.

Update: I suscribed to Elasmobranchii but is not appearing in the list, see

what is curious is Elasmobranchii is appearing at my All updated.

It’s not automatic. Subscriptions are a pretty old feature. You’ll need to manually unsubscribe from Subclass Neoselachii, you can do so by clicking on the gear icon next to the taxon you want to edit.

Correct, the dashboard subscription widget only shows a few of your subscriptions. To see all of them, click on the gear icon next to “Subscriptions”. Then you can click on the various types of items you’re subscribed to. If you click on taxa, you’ll be taken to https://www.inaturalist.org/subscriptions?type=taxon where you can see all the taxa to which you’ve subscribed,
