Unresolved flag reminder

Platform: Website

Description of need:
Flags are often left unresolved for months or even years at a time, yet a simple reminder (usually @ mentions) can help push any involved users to resolve it. Instead of this being done manually through comments, I request that an automatic reminder notification be sent out to the creator of the Flag and any commenters.

Feature request details:
By default, any user who interacts with the Flag opts in to these reminders (identical to the Subscribing and Following features for Observations and Flags). Reminders are to be sent out 1 week, and then 1 month, etc., after a Flag is created if it remains without a Resolution. More exact functionality is open to discussion (e.g. whether reminders should be sent after the last comment, rather than the Flag’s creation date; how long before the reminders are sent out, etc.).
Ideally, these reminders serve to coerce the involved users to reach a resolution, or encourage the flagger to garner discussion (@ relevant users) if none has been made.

I think this a useful idea, however some tweaking and ideas might be useful to make it perfect as just being the person who made the flag wouldn’t be useful, especially if no commenters were there or non of them were curators.

I agree, though do refer to my last point:

[…] encourage the flagger to garner discussion (@ relevant users) if none has been made.

Whether a simple reminder will push a flagger to do this (especially if they are inexperienced with iNat) is undependable. There should be some extra functionality, or perhaps ‘Flag tips’ that help users to resolve Flags more generally.

As someone who does a couple flags per day and isn’t a curator I usually just ping a trusted identifier who is a curator and they go through and add everything.

Perhaps a curation leaderboard and flag leaderboard for families would be helpful. However it only counted on the leaderboard if it was resolved so people didn’t randomly make fake flags. (each person who started a flag and the person who resolved it would get the “point”)
